It is believed that the Temple is established and worshipped by the Panchapandavas. Ivormadom Sreekrishna Temple is situated on the southern bank of Bharathapuzha, at Pambadi of Thiruvilwamala Grama Panchayat, located in the North-East of Thrissur district. Lord Srikrishna as Parthasarathy is the main deity of this temple. Ganesha, Ayyappa, Siva, Parvathy and Nagaas (Snakes) are the sub-deities. It is believed that the main idol of the temple was installed by the Panchapandavas. This sanctum is renowned for performing the posthumous rituals. Thousands throng daily at this place for performing the “Bali tharpanas” (ceremonials rites and rituals for the departed souls).

After the great Kurukshethra War, Pandavas reached this place in South India called Bharathaghandam, situated on the banks of river Nila, on the advice of Lord Krishna, to pay homage to the lost lives and perform last rites and rituals for those departed souls to attain salvation (Moksha). They stayed and performed all the rites and rituals and finally felt very happy on finding the departed souls of everyone involved in the war attained Moksha and eternal peace. They then built a temple and installed the idol of Lord Krishna which they had with them inside it. The temple later came to be known as Ivormadom since it was constructed and consecrated by the Pancha Pandavas. (Ivor means five, from pancha pandavar the five pandavas). Later after installing Shiva idols at the temples in Kothakurussi and Someswaram, they prayed at Vilwadrinatha Temple and attained freedom from their sins, after crawling out of the cave of Punarjjani.
